Ifon-Osun Monarch Warns Against Cultural Decline at ACLAS Communication Summit

  Abdullahi Oladigbolu Ifon-Osun monarch on Wednesday issued a strong warning about the erosion of indigenous culture among Nigerian youths at the 2025 ACLAS Communication Summit. Delivering the message on behalf of His Royal Majesty, Oba Akinyooye, the 3rd Aremo Obatala, Olu Ifon of Ifon-Osun , Pastor Shola Akande said cultural practices within Yoruba communities are “rapidly disappearing,” citing declining respect for traditional greetings and diminishing regard for royal authority. He noted that this has spilled over into religious domains and termed it as going against long-held values by the culture. Akande also commented on the diminishing usage of indigenous languages, indicating that Nigeria faces a prospect in which foreigners end up teaching African languages to Nigerian kids. Abdullahi Oladigbolu Professor O. O. Oyewo , of the Department of Communication and Language Arts, has commenced the University of Ibadan’s 600th Inaugural Lecture at Trenchard Hall. His presentation, “Rumour, A Coat of Many Colours; A Rainbow of Hearsay,” has drawn significant attention as he examines how rumours shape public discourse. Professor Oyewo took the stage to lead the audience through his research, opening the lecture with an exploration of what rumour is.  Further updates to follow.

Abdullahi Oladigbolu Association of Communication and Language Arts Students has just commenced its Portfolio Building and CV Training session featuring Mr. Ayoade Omolola , Strategy & Intelligence Lead at X3M Ideas.  The much-awaited session, focused on marketing communications and career development, kicked off  at  10am  with the facilitator with the facilitator laying the groundwork for the conversation. UI Convocation: The Business Behind the Celebration

Abdullahi Oladigbolu The road leading to the ICC gate was already ablaze with more than excitement at 8 a.m . C onvocation  morning  had transformed the normally tranquil environment into a marketplace of shouts , colours  and camera flashes .  Graduates in flowing academic gowns added their own splash of colour to the morning scene, walking briskly toward the ICC, their heads held up high as families hurried behind them.  The morning breeze  carried  the aroma of popcorn, food snacks, and simmering jollof rice in the food warmer .  “ Sash ₦1,500! Get your sash here! ” a woman yelled, spreading different colours across her arm . Meanwhile, a dispute over whose turn it was to take the next set of photographs flared between three photographers a few meters away. “Next! Shift small, yes, smile!” one of them bellowed, clicking his camera shutter rapidly to take a picture . Though the formal event happened within the ICC, another kind of event, no less...

CLA Held to 2–2 Draw in Thrilling Dean’s Cup Opener

Abdullahi Oladigbolu The Department of Communication and Language Arts (CLA) kicked off their Dean's Cup Campaign with a thrilling 2-2 draw against the Department of Archaeology in their opening group-stage fixture. CLA started brightly and their early dominance paid off when they were awarded a penalty in the 14th minute.  Jorsh stepped up and confidently slotted in the goal from the penalty spot to put CLA 1-0 ahead. Archaeology responded in a similar fashion when they were awarded a penalty, following a handball by a CLA player; Samuel found the back of the net from the penalty spot to make it 1-1. Minutes later, Archaeology struck again from open play, turning the tide their way to make it 2-1 as they headed into halftime. The second half was a fiercely contested affair as both teams created their chance s.
